Important Alliance Events
The Alliance has accomplished a lot in the five years since its founding. Navigate through the timeline below to see some of our key accomplishments.
The Alliance Begins
The Streaming Video Alliance was founded on November 14, 2014 by the following companies: Alcatel-Lucent, Charter Communications, Cisco Systems, Comcast, Epix, Fox Networks Group, Korea Telecom, Level 3 Communications, Liberty Global, Limelight Networks, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Qwilt, Telecom Italia, Telstra, Ustream, Wowza Media Systems, and Yahoo.
First Member Meeting
The first member meeting convened at the Hilton, Midtown in New York, NY in conjunction with Streaming Media East. The keynote was delivered by Joe Inzerillo, then CTO of Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM).
First Board Meeting
The Streaming Video Alliance board first convened on May 12, 2015 in New York, NY.
Second Member Meeting
The Alliance held it's second member meeting on September 1, 2015 in Denver, CO. This meeting was hosted by Charter Communications.
Third Member Meeting/One-Year Anniversary
The Alliance celebrated it's one-year anniversary on November 19, 2015 at the third member meeting hosted by FOX at their FOX Studios in Los Angeles, CA.
Fourth Member Meeting
The Alliance's fourth member meeting was held in Sunnyvale, CA on February 18, 2016 hosted by Yahoo!

This document is a problem statement and functional requirements of an open caching solution deployed by service providers to be used by content providers and content delivery networks.
Document Published: QoE Metrics Definitions
The QoE Working Group produced documents on QoE-related Events and Metrics. These documents were used as input into CTA R04 WG20 Streaming Media QoE Working Group.
Fifth Member Meeting
The Alliance held it's fifth member meeting back in New York, NY on May 12, 2016 at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square.
Jason Thibeault Appointed Executive Director
Jason Thibeault, formerly of Limelight Networks, was appointed the Executive Director of the Streaming Video Alliance.
Sixth Member Meeting/First International
The Alliance's sixth meeting was also it's first European meeting, held in London, England on September 7, 2016. This meeting was hosted by Sky.
Collaboration with CTA
The Alliance forms a collaborative relationship with the Consumer Technology Association to share findings and publications as well as work jointly on future projects.
Establishment of Virtual Reality Study Group
The Alliance forms its first study group, VR/360-Degree Video, to study the market for these emerging streaming technologies.
Document Published: Open Cache Request Routing Technical Specification
This document is a high-level functional specification of open caching request routing and the required interfaces to enable request routing to be performed from an upstream CDN to an Open Cache system.
Seventh Member Meeting
The Alliance's seventh member meeting was held on November 11, 2016 in Denver, CO, hosted by Level 3 Communications.
Report Published: Mobile Video Consumer Research
This consumer research study, based on 1000 respondents, was fielded in late 2016 and explored attitudes and behaviors around watching video on mobile phones.
Open Caching Proof-of-Concept
The Open Caching working group began its first working trials of the Open Caching Network. Participants included Charter, Limelight Networks, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Qwilt, Verizon, Viacom, Viasat, and Yahoo.
Eighth Member Meeting
The Alliance held its eighth member meeting on February 9, 2017 in Santa, Clara CA. This meeting was hosted by Ericsson at their new facility.
Ninth Member Meeting
The Alliance's ninth member meeting was held on May 25th, 2017 in Basking Ridge, NJ. This meeting was hosted by Verizon.
Document Published: Open Caching Logging Requirements Specification
This document defines the Open Caching System (OCS) technical specifications for logging data to help track data acquisition and the delivery of it to the end user.
Document Published: Open Caching Request Routing Service Provisioning Specification
This publication represents the functional specification of open-caching service provisioning interfaces enabling a Content Delivery Network (CDN) and an SP to exchange information to enable the delegation of CDN content requests to the SP Open Caching system.
Membership Grant Program Launched
The Alliance announces the launch of the Membership Grant Program, awarding Principal Memberships to selected small companies and startups meeting specific financial criteria.
Tenth Member Meeting
The tenth member meeting, also the second international meeting, was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands and hosted by Liberty Global.
Eleventh Member Meeting
The Alliance held is eleventh member meeting in Murray Hill, NJ on November 30, 2017. This meeting was hosted by Nokia at the legendary Bell Labs facility.
Document Published: Open Caching Content Management Operations Specification
This document describes the functional specification of the Open Caching Content Management interface and the functionality requirements from the SP Open Caching system as well as discussing the interface between the SP Open Caching Controller and the CDN.
Document Published: Open Caching Logging Integration Specification
This document describes the process of provisioning a Logging Integration between a CDN and an ISP in an Open Caching solution and defines extensions to the “Footprint and Capabilities” interface and to the “Service Metadata” interface, to allow provisioning a Logging Integration.
Twelfth Member Meeting
The twelfth meeting of the Alliance was held on March 8, 2017 in Milpitas, CA. This meeting was hosted by Western Digital Corporation.
Thirteenth Member Meeting
The Alliance hosted its thirteenth member meeting on May 30, 2018 in New York, NY. This meeting was hosted by Viacom.

Fourteenth Member Meeting/First Two-Day Meeting
The Alliance's fourteenth member meeting was also its third international meeting and the first two-day event. It was held on October 10 and 11, 2018 in Budapest, Hungary at the IBM Cloud facilities (formerly Ustream). All meetings going forward are two day events.
Fifteenth Member Meeting
The fifteenth meeting of the Alliance, the second two-day format, was held in Burbank, CA on February 20 thru 21 and was hosted by Disney Streaming Services at the famous Disney Backlot Studios.
Sixteenth Member Meeting
The Alliance's sixteenth member meeting was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and hosted by Comcast/NBCUniversal at their brand new Comcast Technology Center.
The Alliance kicked off its five-year anniversary celebration at it's sixteenth meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Streaming Video Alliance LABS
The Alliance announced the launch of LABS to codify Streaming Video Alliance specifications into functional, open-source reference code.
Seventeenth Member Meeting
The Alliance's seventeenth member meeting was held in Lisbon, Portugal and hosted by Sky at their new facilities.

Launch of New Conference: SEGMENTS:2020
The Alliance announced it's first inaugural conference, SEGMENTS:2020. This conference, open to the entire industry, will walk attendees through the streaming video workflow and provide examples of how to solve critical technical challenges.
