Why Did Anevia Join the Streaming Video Technology Alliance?

We joined the Streaming Video Alliance so that we can discuss the latest innovations with both service providers and partners – which of course fuels more innovation, both for us and for them. We also joined to better understand the roadblocks that service providers encounter, so that we can design better solutions for them. And we joined to help the industry move forward by sharing our experiences. So that, ultimately, we can provide a better user experience for every TV consumer on this planet!

What Do You Believe is the Biggest Technical Challenge Facing the Streaming Video Industry the SVTA Can Help Address?

The broadcast industry was built on solid standards with very few key players. All deployments had a similar architecture. In contrast, the streaming industry is being built on numerous protocols, enabling many different services towards an increasing number of devices. The complexity of such deployments in terms of architecture, scalability, and interoperability makes the overall reliability of the service a real concern. So the technical challenge is to make services more reliable by limiting this complexity. Some complexity is of course inevitable, but it is possible for example to reduce the complexity related to interoperability. To do this, the industry needs to understand which technologies will be key for the future, and which ones will not be adopted. The Streaming Video Alliance can help to address this challenge.

How Does an Organization Like the SVTA Bring Value to the Industry?

What the industry really needs is feedback on the different technologies: which technologies should be used when and for what. That’s why it’s very valuable, for all the small players in the industry, to get feedback on technology from industry leaders in positioning papers – something that the Streaming Video Alliance enables. Thanks to the Streaming Video Alliance, we also get proofs of concept using the latest technology, which really helps the different players in the industry get a better understanding of the big picture.
