Reducing Latency in the Live Streaming Workflow

Reducing Latency in the Live Streaming Workflow (April 29, 2020)

April 29, 2020 (10am PST)

The exponential growth of OTT really happened with Netflix. Although there was streaming prior, content was limited and often fraught with technical issues. Netflix put OTT on the map. But as the technology of streaming matured, it moved beyond VOD and into Live. Broadcasters and rights holders realized they could deliver their linear content, such as live sports, to the growing universe of streaming viewers. But delivering live content, like a weekend soccer match, is significantly different than delivering on-demand assets. When viewers stream their favorite sports or live shows, they want the experience to be like, or better than, broadcast. So when the stream is 10 seconds, 30 seconds, or even a minute behind, viewers express their displeasure which can range from Tweets to cancelled subscriptions. In this webinar, we’ll explore how some video distributors are tackling the issue of latency and some of the best practices to ensure live streams provide an experience analogous to broadcast. Panelists for this exciting webinar will be announced shortly. This webinar will be moderated by Jason Thibeault, Executive Director of the Streaming Video Alliance. You can follow Jason on Twitter @_jasonthibeault.
